Salon Entro hosts 1For1 Movement Charity Benefit for UC Davis Children's Hospital

Salon Entro inside Entro Studios, a locally based health and beauty salon, in association with the UC Davis Children’s Hospital, will utilize one of their many specialty services, hair extensions, to help inspire, motivate and uplift the self-esteem of children that suffer from chronic illnesses that cause hair-loss.

For the purposes of supporting foundations Salon Entro inside Entro Studios will host its first annual, Our 1FOR1 Movement, launch party on May 19 at Antiquite in Downtown Sacramento from 6:00 p.m to 8:30 p.m.

Contributors to the, Our 1FOR1 Movement, give hope and inspiration to children who suffer from chronic illnesses that cause hair-loss, a major contributor to the self-esteem and personal development of children.

Remote Area Medical Free Clinic at Cal Expo April 1-4

Remote Area Medical (RAM) will provide free dental, vision, and medical services to Sacramento area residents this spring. RAM will open a free, volunteer-run clinic at the Cal Expo Center from April 1 to April 4. All services are free of charge and will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis with 800 individuals served each day the clinic. Numbers will be distributed to patients at 3:30 a.m. and treatments will begin at 5:30 a.m. The clinic will run until approximately 6:00 p.m. each day. All services will be provided by California licensed volunteer health-care practitioners.

Saving Strokes is a Rehabilitation Through Golf Program for Stroke Survivors and their caregivers. Stroke Survivors are paired with PGA professionals to either be introduced to the game of golf or reintroduced to an “old friend”.

Kaiser Permanente to offer free eye screenings to uninsured

For the 16th consecutive year, Kaiser Permanente physicians and staff in Sacramento will offer screenings for area residents who may be eligible for free cataract surgeries that will be performed this spring.

The screenings will be on Saturday April 16 at the Kaiser Permanente Point West Medical Offices, 1650 Response Road, Sacramento.

The surgeries are part of Mission Cataract USA, an annual program in which participating doctors provide the sight-restoring procedure to hundreds of people across the nation who have no health insurance and can’t afford the operation. Kaiser Permanente physicians and staff, who have volunteered for the program for the past 16 years, will perform as many as 20 free cataract surgeries on eligible individuals in early May.

Free dental screenings for Sacramento students

SACRAMENTO - Affiliated Computer Services (ACS), A Xerox Company, in partnership with the Sacramento Chapter of the National Dental Association, will offer free dental screenings and host a seminar on proper dental care for local schoolchildren. Students at Woodlake and Oakdale Elementary Schools will receive free comprehensive screenings and education during two clinics the week of March 7, 2011.

ACS is working with dental organizations across the U.S. to promote fundamental improvements in the health of at-risk and underserved children. Through free screenings and dental care packages, ACS has educated more than 26,000 children since the launch of Dental Outreach Initiative in 2004.

Home Instead Senior Care is sponsoring a free educational session designed to give Sacramento area families an opportunity to relieve stress and receive support from others who are coping with the responsibilities of caring for aging loved ones.  The ongoing support series will address many important topics including healthy aging and senior safety.

National Urban League and Walgreens providing free health screenings

National Urban League and Walgreens providing free health screenings

The National Urban League and Walgreens are providing six free health screenings to residents in urban communities nationwide. The tour arrived in Sacramento to provide screenings to local residents for this week and next week. In honor of National Urban League’s 100 years of service, this year’s educational health screening campaign will also highlight the League’s Centennial “I Am Empowered” national service initiative, and collaborate with Urban League affiliates to offer free health education and screening events.

The wellness campaign features a 40-foot health screening and education vehicle that offers free health screenings, including blood pressure, bone density, glucose and cholesterol levels, body mass index and waist circumference. These free services are valued at more than $140. There are also educational materials distributed concerning each of the screenings as well as HIV/Aids awareness and prevention.
