Shayla Rivera - February 17, 2011

Shayla Rivera was a former NASA scientist who has now rocketed to stardom as a comedian. Shayla has appeared on Comedy Central, Comics Unleashed and the "Latin All Stars of Comedy" special which is now out on DVD. 

Shayla's comedy centers around her views on relationships, single motherhood and everything else life throws her way. She is known for her brash and straight from the hip style humor, that is a hit with both male and female audiences.  Shayla chats with Guy Farris about her career and how she transitioned into comedy. Shayla is appearing at the Punchline Comedy club in Sacramento now through February 20.

Artists sought to enter 2011 California State Duck Stamp Contest

Artists from around the country are invited to submit their original work to the 2011 California Duck Stamp contest. The California Department of Fish and Game (DFG) will be accepting submissions from March 1 through April 30 at 4 p.m. The winning artwork will be reproduced on the 2011 California Duck Stamp, which all waterfowl hunters much purchase, and will be available as collectible limited edition prints. The top contest submissions will also be showcased at the Pacific Flyway Decoy Associations art show in July.  The show will be held at the Doubletree Hotel, 2001 Point West Way, off of Arden Way.

The contest is open to any artist who is 18 years of age or older as of March 1.

Body found in American River

Body found in American River

SACRAMENTO, CA - Sacramento firefighters recovered a body from the American River Wednesday afternoon.

Sacramento Fire Department Capt. Jonathan Burgess said the body was found caught in a tree under about 6 feet of water along the river bank between Howe and Watt avenues just before noon.

The person was wearing waders and may have been fishing, according to Burgess.

Neither the gender of the person nor cause of death was known yet. Authorities also didn't know how long the body had been in the water.
